Award-winning Theater presents Award-winning Drama

Hole in the Wall Theater, winner of the Hartford Advocate's Best Community Theater award for the second year in a row, is pleased to announce its upcoming production of Edward Albee's 2002 Tony Award winning play "The Goat or, Who is Sylvia?"

Martin, a successful architect who is at the top of his profession, well-admired and the recent winner of a prestigious award, admits to a friend that he has a profound, loving relationship outside his long-term, stable marriage. His admission, and the revelation of his mistress's identify, turns his once placid existence upside down as his family tries to come to grips with this news. Albee's play wrestles with themes of obsessive love and forbidden desires. What value is placed on one's fidelity and responsibilities to family? How do we as a society define what is an acceptable, loving relationship? When does love triumph over societal taboos? Veering between funny and wrenching, "The Goat" poses the question "what is love" but provides no answers.

The show is directed by Bristol resident Philip D. Vetro, a veteran director at Hole in the Wall, and co-produced by Kathryn Papineau and Wendy Wolowicz. Martin is portrayed by Bristol resident and long-time Hole in the Wall member Warren Dutkiewicz, and his bewildered wife Stevie is played by New Britain resident Kathryn Papineau. Family friend Ross is played by Hole in the Wall regular Dennis Hull of New Britain, and Martin and Stevie's son Billy is portrayed by HITW newcomer Nicholas Pollifrone of Naugatuck.

"The Goat" opens Friday, May 9, 2008, and runs Friday and Saturday nights May 9, 10, 16, 17, 23, 24, 30 and 31 and June 6 and 7 at 8:00 p.m. Admission is by a $20.00 suggested donation. For reservations, call 860.229.3049. This production is supported in part by a grant from the Connecticut Commission on Culture & Tourism.
