Meet The Actor-Jennifer Tellier of Sylvia

Jennifer Tellier may have taken a bit of a break from performing but HITW audiences will soon be treated to her stage comeback as she takes on the role of “Kate” in our upcoming production of Sylvia. We sat down with this multi talented actress to find out just a little more about her….

What town are you from?
Home town is Coventry, CT.  Currently living in New Britain.
What is your background in theater?
Was in the high school drama club.  Received a BFA in Theatre from CCSU.  Lived and worked in the Astor’s Beechwood Mansion in Newport, RI.  Lived in Mobile, AL touring with the Children’s Musical Theater.  Lived in Las Vegas and worked with David Cassidy at the MGM Grand Hotel and Casino.  Toured with the National Theater of the Deaf as the costume manager.  Worked at Goodspeed Opera House for almost 9 years in the costume department.  Currently a freelance seamstress building costumes for Hamilton and King and I National Tour.
What is your occupation?
Seamstress
How would you describe your character?
Kate is a devoted wife and mother who is committed to teaching.  She always has everything planned and organized.  She likes to have fun but is not spontaneous.  She likes her home and her life neat and tidy.  She likes to manage her home and her life herself.  But she will seek help when she feels she is at an impasse.
What do you like about your character? Dislike?
I like her determination.  She knows what she wants and does what needs to be done to get her where she wants to go.  I don’t really know what I dislike about her.  Although if I had to live with her, her micromanage OCD would probably make me nuts.
You’ve been away from the theater for awhile, how has it been getting back into it?
It’s been 10 years since I last performed on stage and it’s been fun and I’m very happy to be on the stage. It hasn’t been too difficult getting back into it.  I’ve always felt at home in a theater and thankfully my husband is very supportive.
How has it been fitting in acting while being a busy mom?
Because of having kids around it’s been a little stressful.  It hasn’t been easy to focus and devote the time needed to get ready for rehearsal.  Fortunately the 3 year old doesn’t cry every time I leave the house for rehearsal.
Do you have any pets?
Not at the moment.  The family and I are looking forward to the day when we can get a dog.
What do you enjoy most about HITW?
The friends that I have gained since becoming involved with the theater are some of the best I have.
If you were a dog what type would you be? Why?
I think I would be a Labrador.  Very friendly and fun.
Anything else you’d like to add?

I’m looking forward to the opening night party! I might need a ride home!
